How the Firebird Book Awards Got Its Name
The name of the Firebird Book Awards was inspired by the mythical creature of the Firebird, known for its kind and giving nature.
In the legends of old, a divine creature known as the Firebird existed. This majestic bird possessed feathers made of pure gold and a tail that burned with flames of red and orange. Its eyes were said to be jewels that shone like stars in the night sky, and its beak was sharp like a diamond.
The Firebird possessed a rare and wondrous ability – to drop pearls from its beak that were blessed with magical powers. As a result, those in need would often pray to the Firebird, and the creature would appear before them and bestow upon them a pearl that carried the solution to their problem.
The people of the land revered the Firebird and held it in high esteem. They knew not to disturb its peace or harm it in any way. In return, the Firebird would grace them with its presence, and they would often see it soaring high above the mountains, leaving a trail of shimmering pearls in its wake.
One day, a young woman named Lina found herself lost in the forest. She had wandered for hours, and the darkness was beginning to set in. As she stumbled through the thickets, she came across a clearing where the Firebird stood, perched on a tree branch. Lina was struck by the creature’s beauty and fell to her knees in awe. The Firebird looked at her with intelligent eyes and seemed to understand her plight.
Then, without warning, it dropped a pearl from its beak and disappeared in a flurry of flames. Lina held the pearl in her hands, and as she gazed at it, she felt a sense of peace wash over her. It was as if the pearl had known what she needed, even though she had not spoken a word. From that day on, Lina kept the pearl close to her heart and cherished it more than anything else. She knew that the Firebird had blessed her with a gift beyond measure, and she felt grateful to have been touched by its magic.
And so, the Firebird continued to roam the land, dropping pearls for those in need and spreading hope and love wherever it went. It was a mythical creature, but its influence on the people was real, and its legacy lives on.
We are proud to associate our book awards with the giving nature of the wondrous Firebird. All award fees fund our pillowcase projects, where we make and send fun, colorful, one-of-a-kind, handmade pillowcases to women’s and children’s shelters. We may not drop pearls, but we are told that the pillowcases and children’s books we send to the shelters are messages of comfort to those experiencing homelessness.
We thank you for joining us in our efforts to highlight brilliant authors while giving a bit of love to those who have a need.
