John is a licensed CPA who graduated with high honors from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. After graduation, John went on to become a licensed CPA. He worked 32 years in the Federal Government for the IRS, Customs, and Homeland Security. His roles and responsibilities included audits and investigations that dealt with drug seizures, money laundering, illegal smuggling, tax evasion, and monetary fraud. On occasion, John appeared as an expert witness for the U.S. Attorney and helped to secure convictions on several high-profile criminal cases. He and the auditors in his branches received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career, including two Commissioner Citation Awards.
In addition to the auditing and managerial responsibilities, John served as an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) located in Glynco, Georgia. John wrote articles for the importing and exporting community that appeared in “Customs Today” and other global trade magazines. He also was a requested speaker for a wide range of Fortune 500 companies involved with international trade.
For over 18 years John has also worked in Minnesota, Florida, and Colorado as a women’s lacrosse official. To date, he has worked over 1,300 games, including youth, high school, and NCAA college games. John’s articles regarding lacrosse officiating have appeared in ALARC Running Magazine and U.S. Lacrosse Magazine.
John’s wife of 42 years, Susan, is a retired nurse. They have two grown daughters: Sara, who has worked for over 16 years as an oncology nurse at Stanford University Hospital in California, and Chrissy, a Marketing Director in Colorado for a large orthopedic group. Recently, John and his wife became first-time grandparents when Oliver was born. John dedicated “The Parables of Chance” to Oliver.
