Larry Freeland is a third-generation military veteran. His grandfather was a World War I doughboy, and his father was an officer in the Army Air Corps/Air Force, whose service spanned World War II through the early years of the Vietnam War. Both his younger brothers had distinguished service records. Larry served in Vietnam as an Army helicopter pilot and Infantry Officer with the 101st Airborne Division.
After his military service, Larry worked in the financial world, then as an instructor at Lanier Technical College in the Management and Leadership Development Program before turning his talents to writing.
Kirkus Reviews praises Larry as the “absolute master of flight-combat narrative. His ability to put the reader in the seat of a B-17 beset by German fighter planes and anti-aircraft fire is superb.” “His command of aspects of military culture and history of American warfighting is impressive.”
Larry has written four historical fiction novels. His book Chariots in the Sky covers the final major offensive operation of the Vietnam War.
His Legacy of Honor trilogy follows three generations of men in one American family, spanning a century of wars and conflicts, from World War I to the present day. Each generation serves, experiences combat, and then must cope with how it affects them and their families.
Larry is the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal, with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and various other military service medals.
