Are Podcasters Healthier, Happier, More Productive Humans?
Throughout my radio career, I thought about how my message might impact and affect my listeners. But this just hit me today. I never considered how hosting a podcast or radio show could be an essential tool for the mental, emotional, and physical health of the person hosting the podcast. So I wonder – are podcasters healthier, happier, more productive humans?
Here are a few thoughts:
Improved Mental Health – Hosting a podcast can positively impact your mental well-being. First, it allows you to express yourself and discuss topics that may be difficult or uncomfortable to discuss with friends or family. It will enable you to talk openly and honestly without fear of judgment (unless someone sends you an unkind email. Then delete it and go on). Finally, it is an excellent way to share your knowledge and experience with others and build your self-confidence.
Builds Self-Esteem – If you’re looking for a way to boost your self-esteem, hosting a podcast may be the perfect solution. Podcasting can be a powerful tool to help build self-confidence and develop a positive self-image.
When you host a podcast, you become an authority to your listeners. This can be incredibly empowering as you become a respected figure in your chosen field. In addition, knowing that you’re an expert in your niche boosts confidence and helps you feel more secure.
And when you receive positive feedback from your listeners, it is incredibly validating. Knowing that you provide value to others makes you feel more confident in your abilities and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, creating and producing content for your podcast also lends a sense of pride and helps you feel more in control of your life.
Connect with Like-Minded People – Hosting a podcast can help you connect with like-minded people worldwide. Not only does this give you a sense of community and belonging, but it also provides an opportunity to learn from other people. By hearing different perspectives, you gain a broader understanding of your niche, which ultimately helps you become more confident in your beliefs. I have made hundreds of virtual friends who started as show guests, and I continue to learn and grow from our friendships.
Improved Communication Skills – Hosting a podcast can help you develop your communication skills. You learn how and when to ask questions, actively listen and respond thoughtfully, and not interrupt. This can help you become a better listener and communicator, which is vital in any relationship.
Stress Relief – Hosting a podcast can relieve stress. As you explore topics and people you find exciting and engaging, you step away from your day-to-day worries and focus on something positive. Each time I interview a guest, I come away with new ideas, different ways to look at some of my issues, and often gratitude for my life with a new-found appreciation for all my adventures, good and bad.
Increased Productivity – Hosting a podcast can help you stay productive. For me, the more I do, the more I do. Show preparation keeps me busy with research. I’m always thinking about how best to share the information, how it might be received, and what I can do to improve. It keeps me creatively busy.
Finally, when we allow ourselves the time and space to explore our creative side, the stressors in our lives tend to take a back seat. It’s hard to be slow when creativity flows.
So, if you’re looking for a way to build your self-confidence and esteem, manage stress, and have fun, why not try podcasting? I know stepping out of your comfort zone can be a scary experience, but it can also be gratifying.
Here’s to becoming a healthier, happier, more productive human.
